Villa Jerada uses sumac–a wild, red berry–from Turkey. It has cherry and citrus notes and is an excellent way to infuse tangy, acidic undertones to just about any dish. It's a great pantry substitute for lemon. It's traditionally used with za'atar or yogurt, but it's such a versatile ingredient that you can use it just about anywhere. Try sprinkling on eggs or whisking into marinades for lamb, chicken, or fish. It's also a beautiful finishing spice for fruits, chocolate, ice cream, salads, or grilled vegetables.
